Solar thermal energy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from farms in North West Europe
Testing solar thermal energy
Solar thermal energy (EST) has been known and used for a long time, but its potential is limited in Northwestern Europe. Indeed, current systems are not efficient enough to produce hot water all year round and in sufficient quantity. Thus, as part of the ICARE4FARMS project, 4 pilot sites will be set up in France, the United Kingdom, Belgium and the Netherlands to demonstrate the efficiency of solar thermal energy. Through transnational cooperation, ICARE4FARMS will test new generation EST systems in 4 agricultural sectors requiring hot water to feed livestock (calves), heat farm buildings (poultry, pigs) and greenhouses (horticulture).
